Rebel without a cause

Just caught the Foster the People show at House of Blues and I am now in love with the keyboardist/percussionist! I have no idea what his name is, all I know is he is super cute and reminds me of James Dean with his rolled up short sleeve shirt and cuffed dark denim jeans. Yums...

Who says one-pieces aren't Sexy?

Im a firm believer that being "Sexy" has little to do with how tight or tiny your clothes are. It's all about how the garments flatter your figure and lots of confidence. It seems that bikinis now are only suitable if they are tied with a string. But honestly, I don't feel my sexiest when I'm half naked in a public pool. Many people disregard the one-piece... Envisioning a speedo you wore on your high school swim team, or those rouched numbers grandmas wear at the YMCA. But one-piece swimsuits can be damn sexy!
Here's a refresher...

Bo Derek, 10
Farrah Fawcett
Take a look at American Apparel's one-piece's! Very sexy and at great prices!

Lets talk trends: The Panama Hat

The Panama Hat is going to be the "it" accessory this Fall. But why wait till then?? Throw on a straw Panama with a retro one-piece, some cool shades and espadrilles, and you'll have a perfectly classic and on trend poolside ensemble!

1960's model/actress Marisa Berenson is my inspiration.

J.Lo's floppy hat is overdone and passe. The Panama Hat is much more sleek and understated, as seen on many of the runways during the Fall 2011 shows in New York and Paris.
Marc Jacobs

Try these straw versions for Summer, budget worthy and super cute!

Why is Vintage so significant?

It’s more than sporting a trendy vintage garment every now and then and being able to tell your friends, “It’s Vintage.” No, Vintage is Fashion. Fashion is Vintage.

Once you dissect the current styles on runways today, at the trendy stores in Uptown, at Target even, you find that Vintage inspiration is present in 99.99% of looks. We have come to a time in Fashion that very few designers are truly innovative. I believe this will change later, but for the moment people are looking back, getting inspired by their grandparents and mothers, war times, renaissance period, 60's, 70's...and mixing all these eras to create something “fresh” (a common expression used these days since nothing is truly new).

Someone who truly loves fashion can’t help but love Vintage. I went to school for Fashion Merchandising, during which I encountered the typical “fashion merch girl.” Someone whose #1 dream is to be on The Hills, and who thinks Nordstrom’s BP section is high-end...During my time in school, there was only one class that took a look back, Apparel Evolution. We started with the Egyptians and worked our way up through the eras studying styles and trends all the way to present day. It was fascinating. Many trends have already come around 2, 3 times! I think fashion merch students would have benefited greatly from more classes like that one.

I despise Paris Hilton because she just buys random clothes, matches her sunglasses with her belt and her shoes, and has no style. A true lover of fashion knows how to mix vintage with current garments to come up with their own unique style. Someone who knows fashion appreciates each garment’s origin in the timeline of fashion. And someone who doesn’t love Vintage doesn’t truly love Fashion.

The shows in Paris for Fall/Winter 2012 were outstanding. Here are some of my favorite examples of lines inspired by Vintage styles:
John Galliano, 20's and 30's
Balmain, 70's rocker, think David Bowie
Miu Miu, 40's, check out the old school baseball caps!
Chloe, 70's DVF wrap dresses with some classic menswear trousers
Paul and Joe, 70's silhouettes with 60's prints
Dolce & Gabanna, 80's, think Pretty in Pink!
Alexander Mcqueen, Renaissance period
Yves Saint Laurent, A truly great mix of many eras: A few 30's silhouettes along with some 60's mod, 70's jumpsuits, a nod to 80's business casual, all with 90's simplicity.

MARNI- a new discovery and now obsession

Ladies in Marni at the Met Gala.

I was perusing through the many pictures from the 2011 Costume Institute Met Gala on style.com and I fell in love with this picture! They are all wearing Marni, and I love the way  the patterns contrast yet work together and the vintage feel of it all. I then looked up Marni's 2011 Resort line which is full of color blocking, mixing of patterns, and great bib necklaces.

Can't get enough of Wild & Free

Stumbled upon the Wild & Free page on Etsy today. I was searching for cool headdress ideas for the upcoming Bonnaroo music festival I'll be attending next month. This chick is so cool and her designs are killer! I literally cant get enough! Although her pieces are a little pricey for me at the moment, I'm totally inspired to create my own. Post about that to come...
